Are breathalyzer tests always accurate?

No. The accuracy of the breathalyzer test often depends on the law enforcement official correctly administering the test. In addition, the breathalyzer machine may not be calibrated correctly. A breathalyzer test can also be influenced by what was last in a person’s mouth. Sugar-free products frequently have sugar alcohols in them which affect the breathalyzer’s readings but do not actually indicate that the person has had anything to drink. Because of these problems, it is important to consult an experienced DWI lawyer.
